Stakeholder meetings set stage for planning workshop
This month's meetings with the consulting team from mStoner attracted more than 75 interactive media stakeholders from across Grounds. Development, communications, alumni relations and information technology colleagues from more than two dozen units took part in nine sessions over three days. They presented the consulting team with a wealth of ideas and a clear sense of their enthusiasm for creating a holistic approach to building relationships with alumni and other audiences through interactive media. Simple and coordinated use of broadcast email was high on many participants' wish lists. There also was considerable conversation about getting the wide range of content created by various units at U.Va. out to more alumni and friends of the University who would find it of interest. And there were a great many more ideas about a host of topics.

Based on these meetings and some additional conversations with alumni now underway, the team from mStoner is preparing for the next step in our process -- a day-long planning workshop. During the workshop, stakeholders from across Grounds will gather to explore the ideas that have surfaced and to begin creating a framework for how U.Va. can deploy a range of interactive media tools and services for the benefit of both our external constituencies and those throughout the institution who work to engage them.

Those interested in the Interactive Media Initiative are invited to participate in the planning workshop 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, in the Commonwealth Room at Newcomb Hall. This is an intense planning session, a collaborative venture during which all participants must commit themselves wholeheartedly.Everyone who participates must agree to take part for the entire 9-4 time span and step away from their customary lines of communication with people outside the planning workshop. In something of a curious twist for a session devoted to communication via interactive media, this means the use of cell phones, PDAs and computers is off limits from 9 to 4 that day; no checking voice mail, email or taking calls from the office will be permitted. Not even during lunch (which, by the way, will be provided).

To reserve a spot in the planning workshop, please contact Nicole Breeden at nl3d@virginia.edu by Wednesday, Feb. 2. Registrants will receive discussion materials by email several days before the workshop.
